Water use restrictions
Rochefort: water restrictions in force
A police order limits the use of tap water in Rochefort. What is banned, since when, and how to organise yourself to comply without turning your daily life upside down.
The order in force
- In force since
- July 7, 2026
- Until
- Until further notice
- Water supplier
- Town water service (SWDE in Buissonville, Montgauthier and Villers-sur-Lesse)
Information taken from official sources and the press, with no legal value. Only the order published by your municipality is binding: check it if in doubt.
What is banned or limited
- Watering lawns, gardens and plants with tap water
- Watering vegetable gardens, limited or subject to conditions
- Watering sports grounds
- Cleaning pavements, terraces, façades and roofs
- Filling swimming pools, ponds and hot tubs
- Washing vehicles outside car washes
- Filling rainwater tanks with tap water
Details of the order
- Vegetable gardens: watering allowed without hose nozzle or jet.
- Sports grounds: watering banned between 9 am and 9 pm.
- Vehicle washing allowed by a professional company; public pools not concerned.
Complying with the order and living normally
Tap water remains available for drinking, cooking, washing and hygiene. For everything else, a few adjustments are enough.
Water differently
Use rainwater, early in the morning or in the evening, at the foot of the plants rather than with a sprinkler. Mulch keeps the soil moist; a yellow lawn recovers with the rain.

Watering can and rainwater, thick mulch, watering at the foot in the evening: a vegetable garden copes with far less water. Respect the conditions set by the order.

Clubs and municipalities: mow higher to limit drying out, and water only with rainwater or recycled water where allowed.
Terraces and pavements
Broom and brush rather than a hose or pressure washer; the big clean-up can wait.
Pool and pond
Do not empty your pool: cover it to limit evaporation and look after the existing water. Filling will wait until the order is lifted.
A clean car
Use a car wash, which recycles part of its water, or wait until the order is lifted.
Empty rainwater tank
Do not fill it from the tap. Check gutters, filter and overflow to catch every shower, and protect the pump against running dry.

Harvest rainwater
Connected to toilets, washing machine and garden, a rainwater tank covers a large share of a household's needs without drawing on the mains.
Learn moreHunt down leaks
Read the meter in the evening and again in the morning without using water: if it has moved, there is a leak. A running toilet wastes dozens of litres a day.
Learn moreFull appliances
Run the washing machine and dishwasher full, on eco programmes; a short shower rather than a bath.
Private well
Before relying on it more, have the pump and water quality checked: a low water table makes the pump run dry and concentrates iron or manganese.
