Information taken from official sources and the press, with no legal value. Only the order published by your municipality is binding: check it if in doubt.

What is banned or limited

  • Watering lawns, gardens and plants with tap water
  • Cleaning pavements, terraces, façades and roofs
  • Filling swimming pools, ponds and hot tubs
  • Filling rainwater tanks with tap water
  • Reduced network pressure set by the supplier

Details of the order

  • Reduced pressure in Salles, Robechies, Bailièvre and part of Macon.
  • Public pumps reserved for farmers; the Boutonville pump is open to unconnected residents whose well has run dry.
  • Administrative fine of up to €350.

Complying with the order and living normally

Tap water remains available for drinking, cooking, washing and hygiene. For everything else, a few adjustments are enough.

Water differently

Use rainwater, early in the morning or in the evening, at the foot of the plants rather than with a sprinkler. Mulch keeps the soil moist; a yellow lawn recovers with the rain.

Terraces and pavements

Broom and brush rather than a hose or pressure washer; the big clean-up can wait.

Pool and pond

Do not empty your pool: cover it to limit evaporation and look after the existing water. Filling will wait until the order is lifted.

Empty rainwater tank

Do not fill it from the tap. Check gutters, filter and overflow to catch every shower, and protect the pump against running dry.

Less pressure at the tap

The supplier lowers the pressure to protect reserves. If an upper floor, water heater or softener suffers, a well-adjusted booster pump can help.

Good everyday habits

Harvest rainwater

Connected to toilets, washing machine and garden, a rainwater tank covers a large share of a household's needs without drawing on the mains.

Hunt down leaks

Read the meter in the evening and again in the morning without using water: if it has moved, there is a leak. A running toilet wastes dozens of litres a day.

Full appliances

Run the washing machine and dishwasher full, on eco programmes; a short shower rather than a bath.

Private well

Before relying on it more, have the pump and water quality checked: a low water table makes the pump run dry and concentrates iron or manganese.
